I can't seem to update my Safari
Every piece of advice to update my safari says to go to system pref and click update software. but on my computer there is no software update option

Safari is updated when you upgrade the operating system on your MacBook Air.
See below for information about upgrading your MacBook Air. If you can't upgrade it, another option would be to install a 3rd party browser such as Chrome. The current version of Chrome will run on OSX 10.11 or later. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
The model year of a MacBook Air is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.
