When buying iPhone in the US, can we trade-in iPhone purchased in Japan?

To my knowledge, there is no requirement a traded device had to be purchased in the same country.

That said, if you live in Japan and will go back to Japan to use a phone purchased in the US, you won't have warranty on that phone in Japan. iPhone warranty is not international and warranty support is often restricted to the country of purchase.
