How do I stop my iPhone playing when using Homepod

When I ask my Homepod "Hey Siri, play Kiss FM" it will start playing on the Homepod, however it automatically plays through my iPhone, so I have to change the settings on my iPhone to play through iPhone, and then tap the top of the Homepod to play the radio again. Why cant the Homepod just play by itself, without me having to switch? I'm asking the Homepod to play the radio/music, I am not asking my phone to play it thorough the speaker!

Again, it isn't playing through the phone. The phone is merely providing an additional means of control that you could use, if you wish to. Right now I've just used my phone to raise the volume slightly on my HomePod without have to get up and walk over to it, or interrupt the music by asking Siri to set a new volume.

If you think it should be possible to disable this feature then have your say at Feedback - HomePod - Apple.

Wow. Yet another issue to add to the HomePod issues list.

I hope they provide an update for this soon. Why would I need my phone to control the volume, there are 2 volume buttons on the the top. And if I want to change the channel, I ask the speaker (I thought that was the point).

if I wanted to play through my phone then I would change the speaker output on the phone, or tap the top.
