Lost phone misuse

Hi all. Would really appreciate help.

My teenage son who has an iPhone 6s set up by me and running family sharing and parental controls has discovered he can use ‘Find My’ on his iPhone to mark my iPhone as lost. This means he kicks me off my phone whenever he’s not getting his way and I have to sign back into it and set up Apple Pay etc. each time. It seems to me this is a loophole in the parental controls settings/family sharing that hasn’t been well thought out. He can also see where I am any time he wants.

I would like to know if there is a way I can stop him being able to do this, without losing the family sharing elements and parental controls, screen time etc. that I need to manage his phone?

Thanks in advance!!

You are welcome. I don't know how to stop the lost mode problem.

To retain seeing his location, but remove him from seeing your location, use the steps from the 2nd link above.

Stop sharing your location

To stop sharing your location with everyone, follow these steps. You can also stop sharing with a specific person, or turn off Allow Friend Requests.

  1. Open the Find my app.
  2. Select the Me tab.
  3. Turn off Share My Location.

Stop sharing with one person

  1. Open the Find My app and select the People tab.
  2. Choose the person you want to stop sharing your location with.
  3. Scroll down and select Stop Sharing My Location.

Hi Eric Root,

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. Am I right that if I remove him as a friend in Find My then I would no longer be able to see where he is. If I remove him, then I am removed and can no longer see where my son is? I would like to retain the ability to see where he is but not let him see where I am. However, main concern is that he doesn't misuse the Lost Phone function in Find My. I fear this is where parental controls don't have that flexibility. If you have any further suggestions I would be grateful.
