Screen becomes darker at sunlight

I’m an owner of an iphone mini, I noticed several times that at the open air and sunny the screen went darker.

brightness was at maximum (white point under accessibility>display turned off).

is it possible that the phone does so to avoid over heating? The phone was getting warmer, almost hot, but it became hard to use because of the screen becoming too dark to see it.

I owned several iphones SE, iphone 5s, 5, 4, 3g and 3. I Never had this problem. Once an iphone (5s maybe) was locked because of overheating and the message on the display to cool it down. Is it possible that it darkens the screen to avoid overheating?

or can it be due to something else?

It is quite annoying, it’s only may and it will be the first summer with this model.

any suggestions are apreciated.

thx

It is not because of the temperature. Now I had the problem almost daily. The screen becomes darker in steps when the phone is at the sun.

i guess something is broken with this phone. Maybe due to a fall or I have no idea.

it is very annoying, the screen is unusable.

what I notice is if I go from 0% brightness to maximum, the screen stops to becoming brighter after it reaches the halft of the scale…

I’m having the problem daily. It is the same described here.

Why won't my iPhone brightness go up? - Apple Community

phone heats up, I don’t know why, because now it isn’t hot.

maybe it adjusts it by itself to make sure the battery output is enough to keep the phone turned on?

I’m not using else than the facebook comment section.

the problem is becoming very annoying because if it is bright the phone becomes unusable.

Thank you for the reply!

I see that the iPhone can lower the brightness to avoid overheating.

I was just scrolling facebook for 10 minutes while sitting on a bench at 1 pm at the sun in Switzerland. Conditions that I consider normal.

I will disable the true tone, the only setting left that might concern it that I didn’t check. And retry the same.

I saw the display becoming darker in a visible step but the brightness was still at maximum.
