Wild pitch bend in Logic Pro X Synths

I have a classroom of students using Logic Pro and from time to time, a kid will venture into the cool synths that are available only to experience bizarre changes in pitch. There may be a faulty pitch bend wheel to partly blame, but the real crux of the matter relates to the pitch bend range of the synths. This setting is fairly well hidden, but once found, relief is immediate. At the bottom of the synth window, there is a tiny dropdown arrow which opens a small strip where Mono Mode Pitch Range lives. Seems 48 semitones (4 octaves?!?) is a default setting such that the tiniest little wiggle on the pitch bend wheel can shift the pitch by a few halfsteps inadvertently.

Another step that can be taken (since the problem does stem from a bad pitch bend wheel) is to filter out pitch bend at File > Project Settings > MIDI under the "Input Filter" tab.
