ipod support service is not installed

Just installed latest version of iTunes on Windows 10 (this is after DAYS of rebooting, uninstalling, reinstalling, resetting external devices, etc.... DO NOT ASK ME AGAIN TO DO THOSE THINGS). Diagnostics says "iPod support service is not installed" and "iTunes Helper is not running". These components appear not to be part of the latest Windows 10 install through either the download OR through Microsoft Store.

This is no longer user error, this is developer error. Someone fix this, and actually CHECK YOUR DEVELOPER'S WORK this time.

I can tell you I tried that article a dozen times. It did nothing.

What DID do something was, I turned off VPN on all iTunes processes. Apparently iTunes will not work well with VPN on an internal/home network. Luckily I have NordVPN, so I can split-tunnel those processes. It's working, again, like it was a few versions ago.

I will reiterate, your support for these kinds of issues needs to step up tremendously. It's a huge letdown. Users shouldn't have to rely on community support for what is obviously an issue with code.

Hello Lindsay_B.

I performed a clean wipe of everything iTunes related working from the following resource : Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support.

I currently have 12.10.11.2 re-installed and running on my system. Everything is green when running diagnostic. If I allow an iTunes update to the very latest version 12.12.3.5 or even 12.12.4.1, I will unfortunately see once again that both iPod support service is not installed and iTunes Helper is not running.

When the next IOS update is launched for my iPhone, iTunes will REQUIRE me to update iTunes to the latest version to perform the IOS phone update. If this issue isn't resolved, my fear is that when I update my iTunes software I will have the errors listed in BOLD above happen once again.

Has there been an increase in these instances since Apple released the 12.12.3.5 iTunes? Has the Apple engineering community confirmed these instances? Working on an update to remedy?
