iTunes Diagnostics Tests

My iPhone 11 is connected to my Windows 10 PC

and this iPhone is showing in iTunes.

I clicked on “Help” in iTunes and  then clicked on  “Run Diagnostics”

The following errors showed

“Secure Link to iTunes Store Failed”

I then Pressed the Next button

Under the tab,  “Device Connectivity Tests”  it says “iPod Support Service is not Installed”.

I do not have an iPod only my iPhone 11.

Does anyone have any ideas why these errors are

showing?

Windows, Windows 10

Issues connecting to the store might be down to a VPN, security software, malware, or outdated cached addresses in your router, or your ISP's DNS server. Try rebooting your router. You might also try switch the DNS settings of the router to Google's public DNS servers on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

The iPod service will only be installed and running if you've previously connected a device and selected an option that attempts to launch iTunes automatically when you connect your device.

If iTunes is apparently installed correctly try the following in turn until iTunes opens/closes/reopens/connects to the store normally:

  • Remove any SD card that might be in a card reader.
  • Exit the BTTray.exe Bluetooth utility if installed.
  • Locate the shortcut for iTunes, right-click on it, and select Run as administrator. Doing this once may fix certain launch issues. Some users were finding that with the 12.6.1.25 build, for example, they had to use this method every time and modified the shortcut accordingly.
  • Try holding ctrl+shift as you launch iTunes so it opens in safe-mode. Again doing this once may sometimes help.
  • Try disconnecting your computer from the Internet before running iTunes.
  • Delete the iTunes shortcuts from the start menu, desktop, task bar, or similar, then repair iTunes from the programs and features control panel.
  • Try Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support (document retired, archived copy) and test the behaviour in a different user profile or with a different library. If the problem only exists in your profile it may be possible to delete some of the iTunes preference files which it would seem that iTunes may be choking on. We can go into details later if the issue is limited to your own profile.
  • Temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus and see if that has any impact on the behaviour.
  • See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for detailed tear down and rebuild advice. Disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus software when reinstalling and run the installer as the administrator.
  • If you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store you may find the traditional iTunesSetup.exe installer works better for you, or vice versa.
  • Or see the iTunes installers section of the troubleshooting tip and reinstall the last version that worked correctly for you. Links to the latest builds are now at the very bottom of the user tip.

Thank you for the reply andreaferns!

Can you tell us more information about the reasoning behind running a diagnostics? This can help us determine if there are other actions we can take to help the issues you're experiencing.

Let's make sure iTunes is up-to-date: Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

If iTunes is already updated and you still experience an issue, let's follow the step by step instructions to remove and re-install iTunes on your PC. This can resolve many unexpected iTunes issues:

Hello andreaferns,

We would like to see how we can help you with your iPhone. Are you currently runninc security or anti-virus software on your computer? This can possibly block the connection to our servers. If you temporarily disable the software, and run the diagnostics again, does the issue return? Can you tell us a little more about why you are running diagnostics on the iPhone?

Cheers!

I was running diagnostics to try and determine why iTunes does not open straight away by clicking on the app on my PC. In

order for me to open iTunes I have to go through this process.

Click on the iTunes app (it does not open)

Right click on iTunes app and Run as Administrator (Doesn’t open)

Finally click on iTunes app again and iTunes eventually opens.

I must point out that I use an external hard drive which has to be connected to my PC before I try to open iTunes, I have set iTunes to find music on my external hard drive already.

I use an external hard drive with iTunes as my C drive is not big enough to hold all my music.

I am always having problems opening iTunes.  A couple of months I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled but still same problems opening iTunes app.  It was a real pain reinstalling iTunes as I had to create all my many playlists again which took me a long time, so I don’t really want to uninstall and reinstall again.

iTunes was downloaded from Microsoft Store.  I am running Windows 10 and all Windows updates are up to date.

Andy ideas?

Many thanks for your reply. Few questions.

How do I switch the DNS settings of my router to Google's public DNS servers on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.?

How do I Exit the BTTray.exe Bluetooth utility?.

When you say try disconnect my computer from the Internet before running iTunes, do you mean disconnect my PC from

Wi-Fi then open iTunes and then reconnect my pc to my wi-fi?

What do you mean by "if I installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store I may find the traditional iTunesSetup.exe installer works better"? I installed iTunes from Microsoft Store. Do you mean uninstall iTunes and the reinstall from the Apple website rather than Microsoft Store?

The only problem I have with uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes is that all my Playlists will be lost in iTunes and I will have to create all my playlists again once I reinstall iTunes! And this took a very long time last time i reinstalled iTunes a couple of months ago!

I very much look forward to hearing from you. :)
