iPhone X freezing, shutting off, restarting

My iPhone X has been freezing, shutting off, and restarting for the past two days-- I'm not sure what's triggered it. My current software is the one before the latest, I believe. I've tried updating the software via my mac but it keeps disconnecting when my phone freezes and shuts off. What should I do?
