Mac Studio - Focusrite Clarett 4Pre

Hi there, having trouble getting my Focusrite Clarett 4 Pre to work with my Mac Studio.

In fact I'm having a bunch of problems with the Mac Studio - terrible latency in Logic Pro X (Ironic given Logic is an Apple product!), CPU spikes, lag in web browsing and a bunch of other connectivity issues.

Can anyone tell me if they've successfully used a Focusrite Clarett 4 Pre with an M1 mac? I've installed Focusrite Control (had this on my old intel Macbook Pro) and I've updated it to the newest version.

Just getting a 'No Hardware Found' message constantly, it's really frustrating

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi there, have you tried connecting your Scarlett interface with another cable? This (i.e. 'No Hardware Found' message) sounds a lot like a faulty connection issue, rather than anything else.

Though, of course, one should also take into account the fact that Monterey is a relatively new OS, Mac Studio is a new product, and M1 is a novel CPU. So bugs and issues are inevitable in this environment, unfortunately.

Hi JotaGi, thanks for coming back to me. Yes I've tried 3 different Thunderbolt cables, all with the same result.

Really disappointing start - I was expecting so much from the Mac Studio, and it's been nothing but problems with it so far. Even Logic Pro X isn't playing nicely - and as Apple owns and develops Logic, I'd expect it should at least work well within the ecoystem!

I'm just curious, would trying a purely USB-C cable instead of Thunderbolt make any difference in your case?

Really disappointing start

Indeed! Sort of, makes one wonder in what direction is Apple's Mac business going, exactly?

Anyway, I'd try to contact Focusrite's tech support on this as well, if I were you.

Thanks JotaGi, I've been trying to find a good quality Thunderbolt 2 (my Focusrite port) to USB C (All in one cable) but can't seem to find one. Tbh I've spent enough already, so until they resolve the other issues I'm not spending anymore.

Currently on hold on phone to Apple and have escalated it as a complaint - the Mac Studio appears to be faulty (possibly damaged in transit - massive CPU spikes and the Activity Monitor is going crazy even when only basic apps are open), but I've been passed around from 5 different people and still no plan for when they'll replace it. They're telling me it could be 3 months before they ship a fresh one to me. Really not a good experience with Apple and very disappointing. A very expensive disappointment!

This is always a possibility. And since it's brand new, you could insist on a replacement / repair via applicable warranty. Sorry you have to go through this experience. But do keep this board updated on the case, if possible.

Have you seen these two pages on the Focusrite pages?

Clarett Thunderbolt Range (2Pre, 4Pre, 8Pre and 8PreX)

Works with Monterey? YES* -

note that you may need to right-click on the Mac Thunderbolt Driver

installer to run it. If you see an error message that states that the

installer "can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious

software" then please follow the instructions in this article
