Screen Sharing / Remote Management

This has me stumped. Can usually sort problems like this out but have drawn a blank

Have 2 computers on same LAN both wired and WiFi: an iMac (2017) and a MacBook Air both running Mojave 10.14.6 with latest updates.

I used to be able connect to the MacBook Air from the iMac using Screen Sharing & Remote Management but now I cannot. I can connect from the MBAir to the iMac for Screen Sharing & Remote Management. Finders both show the files other computer and I can transfer files from the MBAir to the iMac and vice-versa.

Try an SMC reset for each Mac:

This can sometimes fix I/O errors.

Reset SMC & PRAM on both computers. I should have said that from the iMac I can Screen Share to a MacMini. I've also tried something else, "Requesting Approval" to connect and that works! Of course I have to get up and go to the MacAir to approve it which kind of defeats the purpose. (But then the exercise doesn't hurt.) There is also the fact that I had upgraded all 3 computers to Monterey and then rolled them back to Mojave due to issue with a program (EyeTV). And now I think I have it figured out. When I boot the MacAir I get the dreaded "Incompataible Disk" warning. Seems there's a disk image left over from Monterey.

I remember now that on the iMac I manually formatted the internal disk and on the MacAir I didn't, just let the install format it and it obviously ignored the Monterey base system. So this is on hold as I'm going on holiday next week and I don't want to mess about with it until I return.

So as I'm concerned this is a closed case. Thanks for the help anyway.
