I have some very valuable chat threads on the Signal app. Is there any way to transfer these chats to my new Mac? I realize Time Machine will not support this. Also not possible to backup to iCloud. So I am unsure whether there actually is a way to transfer from old to new Mac?

If they are that important to you, how about doing screenshots of the chat, save as .pdf and then copy them over? When I do an important chat with a store, I always keep screenshots just in case.
Not sure if it syncs either - but I guess this might be the only choice I have. I do notice that I have the very first chat message on my Mac from one thread - and if I remember correctly, I started out on iPhone.

It appears that maybe there is a way to Sync across iOS and macOS - it just is not too well documented

How do I enable a backup? Can I use an iCloud backup?
This seems to conclude, IMHO, that messages on the iPhone can not and will not transfer to the Desktop version

I know. But they do pop up on both devices whenever I write a message on just one of them. If they are indeed stored on my Mac, somehow I should be able to find the file. I will continue looking. And if they are lost - they are lost.

Archiving as I understand it just removes the chats from the first page. I don't think this backs it up in any way unfortunately.

I would love if you come across more info. From what I could read, this talks about deleting and unlinking. It is unclear to me as of now how to get the history onto my new Mac.
I would - except the threads are hundreds and hundreds of messages long. I do have most of them on my iPhone though - just easier to read through on desktop.
I installed it on my iphone only ever got 1 message but when I installed it on windows and logined with the same user messages was just there without any sort of action
