wrongly stating incorrect apple id

My iPod touch is showing an activation lock. It asks me for my apple id but says that it is incorrect but I have used my correct apple id and password. What can I do to resolve this?

If it's locked to a different Apple ID, log in with that one, or contact the person who can, or if you're the unit's original owner, submit an unlock request as described in the Related Article above.

If it's become unbound from that Apple ID but is still locked, submit an unlock request.
