I had an appletv gen4 I bought used from a guy I’ll call “ish”.

Randomly the gen4 would ask for the previous owners Apple password but I was always able to say no to the request.

Today I just bought a gen5 and swapped it out with the gen4.

In the process of loading Hulu on the gen5,

the gen5 is asking for “ish’s” Apple password based on his displayed email address.

I cannot find any reference to his email anywhere in the gen4 or gen5 settings, so I can’t delete his address. Everything else seems to work normally.

help!

The issue is that downloaded apps stay linked to the Apple ID account that was active when these were downloaded from the App Store. Later app updates would need the account sign-in to retrieve that update.

You can delete and re-download the third party apps on your own account,

or perhaps better yet, reset the device to factory settings and set up “as new”.
