Hi,
But lately safari has been causing a lot of problems for me. My computer is not that new nor fast. And safari takes some time to open and it is kind of slow.
is there a way to speed up safari and make it open and run faster?
Yes.
No matter which browser you surf the net with, they all require some maintenance.
First, login to another user account and try Safari there. If Safari loads pages faster then your user account, then the problem is at least in your user account, not a system wide issue.
As for Safari, have you tried emptying the cache more often? From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache.
Also, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left.
It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the
com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari speeds up loading web pages, them move the .plist file to the Trash.
Check to see if you have third party Safari add-ons that are causing performance issues. Go here.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Your profile indicates you are running v10.6.1. If that is the case, install the
v10.6.4 Combo Update Very important to keep your system software updated.
And repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
