How do I startup a disabled ipad 1?

I have an old Ipad for which the password has been forgotton.... how do I reset the password. Is it possible to recover whatever is still on the Ipad?

Click here and follow the instructions. Restoring the iPad requires plugging it into a computer with iTunes installed, or a Mac running Catalina or newer.

It isn't possible to recover the data from it.
