macbook air vs macbook pro weight conundrum

Thinking to update to newer machines, for me and my kid.

- Kid's 2017 MacBook Pro 13" specified* as 3.02 pounds, actual about 3.02 pounds by postal scale.

- My 2015 MacBook Air 13" specified* as 2.96 pounds, actual about 2.0 pounds. And it feels way lighter than the kid's.

So the spec is wrong? Neither of us want a new 3 pound machine, the 2 pounds is much nicer carrying around. The newer Air spec seems to indicate it is as heavy as the Pro...is that really so?

Hi there head_unit,

From what we can tell, the technical specifications aren't incorrect for your MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015). If you take a closer look at the number 3 next to the weight specification on the page you shared for technical specifications for that Mac, you'll see that there is a note at the bottom of that link indicating:

3. Weight varies by configuration and manufacturing process.

The same applies to the new MacBook Air technical specifications here: MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) - Technical Specifications

Take care.
