Safari randomly opens with a blue magnifying glass application

Hi everyone,

So about four months ago I started to notice that safari keeps opening randomly, downloading with it each time it opens a blue magnifying glass application (the application image is a magnifying glass) and I was wondering how I could fix this problem.

It could potentially be a 'helper' that safari installs in order for it to run efficiently, but I suspect it's some sort of virus, because recently one of these helpers was downloaded, named 'Deafult...'. I forgot the entire name, but the misspell of default as 'Deafult' has led me to believe that this is some kind of malware.

Help regarding how to get rid of this problem is greatly appreciated.

Hi t1g3rr,

You could have possibly installed a Safari extension, malware, or an app. that's causing this to happen. Take a look at the following resources for more information on Malware and how to protect against it:

What is malware on Mac? - Apple Support

Protecting against malware in macOS - Apple Support

You'll want to update macOS as the updates include bug fixes and security updates. Then check for extensions in Safari and your security preferences. All of those steps and other great information can be found here: About pop-up ads and windows in Safari - Apple Support
