Certificate encryption mail iOS 5

I can’t enable encryption in mail due to no certificate. I went to check my version and it said I was up to date. How can I get the certificate? Or is something wrong with my phone? Thanks!

Hello jami140,

Your iCloud emails will be encrypted automatically. Check out the article mentioned above, iCloud security overview - Apple Support which explains further.

It sounds like you may be checking settings for another email account on your iPhone. In most cases, it would be normal to see "no valid certificates" when checking email settings. Certificates may be used by organizations such as schools, corporations, etc. to streamline communications. Check out Intro to certificate management for Apple devices - Apple Support. We hope that helps!

Take care.

Hello jami140,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have questions about encrypted email. We will be happy to help. This article addresses setting up, and using encrypted Mail messages if using Exchange Use S/MIME to send encrypted messages in an Exchange environment in iOS - Apple Support

With Apple iCloud email, emails are encrypted between your Apple iCloud mail account on the server and your devices. In other words, when you open your mail app and read an iCloud email, it is encrypted while it is being transmitted to your device from Apple’s server. Similarly, when you send an email, it is encrypted in transmission between your device and Apple’s servers.

Cheers!

I was having problems with my mail, not getting it or getting 30 at once. I went into iCloud in my settings, clicked on mail then Advanced and that’s where I saw s/mime and

sign: no

encrypted by default: no. I clicked on the encrypted to select yes and it said I could there were no trusted certificates. So I checked my phone and it was up to date on software so I wasn’t sure why my mail wasn’t being encrypted, especially with the weird things happening with my mail. Thank you, I will read the article though.
