Photos: Create folders or sub-albums within the "Hidden" album?

In Photos, is it possible to create a folder or album (ie sub-album) within the "Hidden" album? I want to organise my photos at a more granular level within the "Hidden" album.

It is not possible to structure the hidden album. It is just a flat album.

What you could do is to assign keywords to the photos and use the filter to show only the photos with this keyword, while viewing the hidden album. All keywords from the Quick Group can be used in the filter.

For example, while viewing the Hidden album I set the filter to show only photos with the keyword Bridge, now I can see the hidden photos of Bridges. my screenshot has been taken with then System Language set to German - the Hidden album is called "Ausgeblendet" in German:

You could also create smart albums with the rule "Photo is Hidden" in combination with some other rule, for example a date range. Smart albums can be grouped with folders. This way you can created a structured set of albums with hidden photos.

I have posted an example as a user tip here: How to Organise the Hidden Photos in Phot… - Apple Community

Smart albums are one of the best features of Photos, it is worth to explore them. With standard albums we have to add the photos manually, with can be a lot of work, as we have to find and to select the photos, then to add them to the album.

A smart album will select a subset of photos automatically, according to the rules we specify for the album, and it will automatically be updated.

When a smart album contains the rule “Photo is hidden“, the photos in this smart album will always be hidden. We could hide them in the album by changing the rule “Photo is not hidden”. I am simply putting my smart albums with hidden photos in a folder and close this folder in the sidebar, so they are not accidentally opened.

Filters are also great, particularly the filters based on keywords. If you assign keywords to your hidden photos, describing the kind of photo, for example “medical” or “private”, you can set the filter to show only photos with this keyword, see for example How to use the Filters in Photos 4.0 - Apple Community

Thank you for your suggestion. I am not sure I fully understand it but, as you suggest, I am going to play around with the filter and see what I can learn. I need also to study smart albums. I have not before used them so there is more to learn of their possibilities. In using a smart album, with the rule Photo is hidden", does that create a folder with contents that are hidden? If so how does one "toggle" between hidden/not hidden with the smart album solution ? I am grateful for your help.
