My iPhone 13 was originally set-up as Kurt's iPhone 13. It was fine for about a month or so, but then (for no reason I can see), the name was changed to iPhone (1). It keeps changing and is currently up to iPhone (9). Haven't really seen anything operationally wrong and the various tie-ins such as find my device, etc. seem to follow it as it changes. But still it is annoying. Anyway to stop this? it is up to date with 15.5 Thanks.

Go to Settings/General/About and you will probably find the name of your phone is iPhone, along with all of the phones that you are authorized to follow in Find My. So the numbers distinguish one iPhone from another if they have the same name.

My question was about the Apple ID. Your wife should have her own Apple ID, not share one with you. Apple IDs are personal; they shouldn’t be shared any more than you would share a toothbrush. If you share an Apple ID with someone else many bad things will happen. Each user should have their own Apple ID, then you can create Family Sharing→What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support. That way you can share what you want to share and not share what you don’t want to share.
It is OK to share an Apple ID among devices used by one person, such as an iPhone, an iPad and a Mac; in fact, it is a very useful thing to do. But not between devices used by different people.

iPhone sync is (also) unrelated to the IP network host name established by the mDNS/Bonjour/Zeroconf network.
Sorry about the confusion. She has her own ID, I mentioned that to say that other similar devices (her iPhone) or Apple products in general were not having problems. It was to try and point out that it seemed to be something weird with just my phone and not others. Thanks for the reply.
What you’re describing can (also) be due to a loop in the local network.
Do you have more than one IP router in use here, or a cable looped and running back into a network switch?

Do you have multiple iPhones sharing an Apple ID? That is OK if they are used by one person, but can lead to major problems if they are used by different people.
Don't think so.Plain vanilla ATT at one place and plain vanilla Xfinity at the other. Also, my wife's iPhone and other assorted Apple products are not behaving badly.
