16 TB EXTERNAL SSD

Is there any way to speed up the formatting process of an EXTERNAL 16 TB SSD, I did see in a previous post that you must run at least a two-pass secure erase to ensure that the SSD is being formatted correctly. However at the current rate of processing it will take about 14 days to completely overwrite the SSD.

Is there a different quicker way of achieving the overwrite.

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 12.3

Nope. The computer will do its job at the best rate depending on the exact task at hand.


You don't need to "security wipe" an SSD drive as there is no "magnetic data shadow" to deal with. Once the data is gone it's gone. You will find the usual two sides to this argument, so it's up to you.


But no, all you can do is choose the number of passes ... the fewer the faster.
