I am curious as to what changed in the last couple days with USB plugs. My phone at work connects to my computer (or my airpods) and now it won't charge saying USB power surge. Also, my car play won't work and my phone won't connect with same error. I have iphone 13 pro max and it's worked fine.

Check the charging port for lint or other debris and see this:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won‘t charge
If no help, try another charging cable.
