i have set up a new iphone using my existing apple id. when i try to update my apple id settings, it is asking for the password on my last iphone. i do not remember it and its not allowing me to update the setting even when i choose 'forgot password' How do i do this?

If you forgot the Apple ID (iCloud) password, enter the Apple (iCloud) ID, and click Forgot Password. See if you can get a Rescue or Notification email option if necessary. Link to contact Apple Support at the end of the 2nd article.
For the passcode, if you see an option to reset encrypted data, several people have posted that they did that and lost little to no data.
