Two basic troubleshooting steps to perform:
A "forced" restart of your iPad:
If the issue persists, something could have gone wrong during the latest update procedure.
I would try to install a fresh copy of iOS/iPadOS. To do this, create a full backup of your iPhone/iPad (1), then restore it to factory settings (you need a computer to perform this step) and, in the end, set it up as new (2).
When done, restore data from your previously made backup (3).
Follow the instructions provided in these support articles:
(1) How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – Apple Support
(2) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings – Apple Support
(3) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
If the issue still persists, contact Apple Support directly using this link:--> Get Support or, even better, make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

A reliable method to confirm a screen or other hardware fault is to take a screenshot when the fault is evident - and then review the captured screenshot image...
When the image is reviewed - potentially using a different device - if the screen distortion is not present in the screenshot image, then you have demonstrated that you have a hardware fault; sooner or later the fault may become sufficiently severe that repair or replacement of the iPad are the only options. If the distortion is visible in the screenshot, the something other than hardware will be the cause.

Either way, a forced-restart of your iPad may clear an isolated software issue:
If the problem remains unresolved, you’ll need to seek assistance directly from Apple. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. If repair is required, you be in the best possible place to explore your options.
