file sharing and screen sharing not working with monterey 12.4 on m1 mini

I just purchased a new m1 mini from Apple and as part of the initialization program migrated my data from a 2018 intel i7 mini running Monterey 12.4. The upgrade on the m1 was done as part of this process. All worked fine and the install and migration seemed to complete without a hitch. But when I try to access the m1 from my MacBook pro, I am able to connect, and see all the major folders, but when I try to access any of them I just get a blank folder without any ability to progress down the directory tree. I have checked all the permissions, both using the Finder, the Sharing section of the System Preferences and using the Terminal with the 'ls' command. I get no warning that the folder is protected, just no access to the files and folders below. I have also set the "everyone" privileges to wide open to see if it is a user issue, but it is not. What is odd is that one of the folders, the Movie folder, is fully accessible. But when looking at he permissions using the Terminal commands, they are exactly the same. Furthermore, Screen Sharing will connect but will not open the m1's screen.

So I am perplexed and hope that there is a simple setting or reset that I am overlooking. Thank you for your consideration.

Have you rebooted more than once after you set things up....start there.

Is this File sharing issue

or

a Finder issue?

for file sharing

Set up file sharing on Mac - Apple Support

no insight—

You can turn File Sharing on via command line using the Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.smbd.plist

followed by:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.smbd.plist

Close and re-open System Preference to be in sync with current status of File Sharing or Remote Login.

Thanks for the reply. Filesharing is set up and is actually functional. I can copy something to the root directory but cannot navigate the directories from there. I had never considered that this might be a Finder issue. And btw, since I first posted this have been on phone with Apple Support, re-installed Monterey, and created new users to see if the problem existed there as well. It does. If this is a Finder issue, any clues on how to debug it?
