Calendar keep turning on alerts I have turned off

I have a repeating appointment on an iCloud calendar that is shared between my Mac and iPhone. Both calendars have the default alert time preference set to "5 minutes before". If I modify the calendar entry to remove the alert (for all events) on one device, it succeeds on that device, but has the OPPOSITE effect on the other device! It's like the other device sees the event has been modified, and RE-APPLIES the default alert preference I have set for that device.

This makes it essentially impossible to remove alerts from that appointment on all my devices. I have filed a bug report with Apple, but in the meantime does anyone know how to stop this insane behavior? I'm not interested in workarounds like destroying and re-creating the appointment, or setting the default alert time preference to "none".

Thanks.

Hello EricS,

The first thing we recommend, which may have already been done, is to power cycle all the involved devices. While simple, this can refresh the iOS, apps and connections.

If the issue remains, then we would toggle iCloud Calendar off and then back on for each device. This may help reset the connections for syncing purposes.

On the iPhone, tap on Settings > [your name] > iCloud, Toggle Calendars off.

On the Mac, click on the Apple Logo in the upper left corner. Then click System Preferences > Apple ID. Toggle Calendars off.

Restart both devices, and toggle Calendars back on for both of them.

Test and see if they sync as expected.

Cheers.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply. This isn't an issue with the calendars not syncing; they sync just fine. In fact, I can make a change to the repeating appointment on one device (say my phone) and almost immediately see the change on my Mac. The problem is that the change made on my Mac also unconditionally sets the alert back to the configured default for that device (5 minutes before). This is despite having manually removed the alert from the appointment on both my Mac and phone prior to this change.

In fact, just turning the alert off on one device triggers the alert to be turned ON on my other devices. I can see this happen in real time.

I suppose the only way to stop this is to delete the repeating appointment, change the default alert to "None" on ALL my devices, then re-create the appointment.
