Yes you can have multiple external drives for TimeMachine backup

I use 2 external USB C HDD drives for my backups, as soon as I connect a drive the backup will start automatically.

Here I did a backup on both disk at the same day.

Yes, open TimeMachine preferences, unlock and you'll have the option to add a second drive. Backups will be made alternatively on each disk
