Will an aggregate input device work for all programs? iMovie, Voice Memo?

Trying to use iMovie to record 2 mics with live input by creating aggregate input device in Audio Midi Setup, selecting the aggregate input device in System Preferences/Sound, then launching iMovie. Doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

Greetings JFCampbellJr,

Looks like you found the perfect article to answer this question Create an Aggregate Device to combine multiple audio interfaces. It states that you can create an aggregate device in Core Audio-compliant applications such as Logic Pro, GarageBand and MainStage.

A further search of the iMovie User Guide has no entries for Aggregate Devices or MIDI set up - iMovie User Guide for Mac

Give the setup a shot in one of those compatible apps and see if the issue is happening with apps that Apple specifically states it works in.

Thanks.

Thank you Annie. So it appears that an aggregate mic can be added to iMovie, but only after changing to aggregate device in system/sound AND in iMovie selecting aggregate device in the voice over screen by choosing the input device to the right of the red record button. Also have to be sure that the two or more USB mics are connected each on their own USB port and not using a hub. So connecting a USB A-B hub to a USB C port on say MacBook Pro can not be used unless each mic goes through a separate port on the MacBook. Connecting multiple mics to a single USB hum will result in only one mic being found. Thanks for the good idea to try the aggregate mic on apps that Apple says should work with aggregate mic, --- a good way to see if there are hook up issues since you can be pretty sure that it's not the incompatibility of the host program. thanks, Joe C
