My iPhone 13 pro does not make a sound when I receive a text message. My wife is having the same problem. Our phones are not on silent and all of the settings seem to be correct. I don’t know if this matters but we also have Apple watches, MacBook Pro, iPads, and AirPod Pros.
I figure you may have already tried this, but I’ll share what seems to have worked for me. A few days ago I tried Reset Network Settings (Settings >General >Transfer or Reset >Reset >Reset Network Settings). It only took a few seconds for me, and afterward I just had to reinput my Wi-Fi passwords. And my text tone and banner (when my iPhone is either locked or unlocked) have returned. The process is pretty painless and less as all consuming as a Reset.

T have reset my phone, now I am getting a notification number on home screen, I am still not getting the sound alert.
Can any one tell me why, the bell has a line through it, I don't understand how it got there or how to remove it
I had this issue after an update with my iPhone SE, when it was very new and covered by Apple care. The advice was reset the phone as new! I did this and all seemed fine, that was until the most recent update and it’s done it again. Reset as new is a pain but neither I nor they found another was of making my phone make audible alerts. So frustrating.
I share your frustration. Two months ago I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 15.5 and had a similar issue with no text tone along with no text banner alerts. I contacted Apple, settings were okay and appeared like the ultimate solution would be to reset the phone which I was not eager to do. So I waited a week and the phone gradually righted itself.
Because of this problem and the iPhone 7 Plus not being supported in the near future, 12 days ago I bought a new iPhone 13 ProMax. 2 days ago I updated it from iOS 15.5 to 15.6 and the same thing happened! No text tone nor text banner alerts. So I will wait about a week and see if it rights itself before I contact Apple. Having to reset the phone with each update does not sound like much fun especially with a brand new phone.
If you have an Apple watch that has wrist detection enabled and is unlocked text alerts will appear on the watch instead of the phone.
What bell has a line through it? For one person, or for all? Where do you see this bell with the line through it?
Thanks for the reply. My phone still is not alerting me when I get a text. I have not reset it and don’t plan to. I’m afraid of losing things on my phone with a reset.
