Transfer of data from iPad Air 2 to new iPad 9th gen

Has anyone transferred data from an old iPad to a new one please? Which is the easiest method, Quick Start or iCloud? My iPads are both wifi only.

These support pages should get you started with setup of your new iPad - and the methods of transferring your data from old to new iPad:

Set up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If the donor iPad, from which you are transferring your data precedes iOS12.4, QuickStart will not be available.

“Transfer” is rather a misnomer. In reality, your data and setup is merely cloned to the new device. Nothing is moved or removed from the original device. As such, the transfer process offers no risk at all to current data - until such time as you wipe the old (source) device. Naturally, you are unlikely to consider erasing the old iPad until you have satisfied yourself that everything has successfully transferred.

An alternative is to restore either an iCloud or iTunes backup to the new device:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – Apple Support

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

When you are ready, the best procedure for preparing you old device for disposal or reuse can be found here:

You are welcome.

Contact Apple Support:

If you are a bit nervous, then contact Apple Support. They'll run you through the fix.

Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

Based on Personal Experience:

I'd go with QuickStart, when it comes to transferring all of a particular file type. If I just need to tanner a few items (not a large group), then I'd go with iCloud.
