Repost - Cursor Jumps to the End of Text Fields

Reposting due to insufficient answers and to provide a possible (temporary) solution.

TLDR; type what you need to type at the end of the field and then copy & paste it where you need it to go.

When filling out information in some text fields - for example the name entry fields on ancestry.com - if I need to add or change something in the middle of the field, I move the cursor to the position needed to add or change what I need to. Then, after typing one letter, the cursor jumps to end of the field. It wasn’t doing this until this last week, and it’s truly obnoxious. I guess my question is, is this a setting that I can turn off? It isn’t happening in this field I am typing in currently. I have attached the following image as an example of what it is doing. I typed Joseph “Jumping Joe” and then realized I needed to add Anthony after Joseph and before “Jumping Joe” and this is what happened. Only the “A” was inserted before the cursor jumped to the end of the field.

Hi cGryf,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! If the cursor jumps around while typing as in the example above you can try going to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Trackpad, from here turn off "Tap to click":

Use Multi-Touch gestures on your Mac

Additionally, as this may happen if the trackpad is accidentally touched or clicked while typing, adjusting hand position while typing to avoid touching the trackpad may help.

You can try also using an an external keyboard. And lastly, if you check the “Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present” checkbox in the Apple menu > System Preferences > Accessibility > Pointer Control, then click Mouse & Trackpad then connect an external mouse or trackpad which may also help:

Change Mouse & Trackpad preferences for accessibility on Mac

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
