Ensure that you have chosen the keyboard mapping in iPad setting that matches your Magic Keyboard. Do not use the automatic setting.

In settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard, tap over at the right edge, and make sure you have US checked. Getting ™ instead of € like that means you probably have British active.
With British active, € is on option 2.

any more ideas?
Like I posted earlier:
"With British active, € is on option 2."
What does option 2 produce for you?
Nothing here in that link explains what to do.
can you be more specific please?
I am British and have used the euro symbol before but obviously since then pressed something by mistake

on my keyboard € is the alt function of the E key not 2

What language layout are you using? € on alt E sounds like German Standard, Italian, Spanish, or Latin American
I’m using British keyboard and the euro symbol is on the 2 key

Option/alt 2 should produce € for you. What does it do?
I get a small TM

What do you get with Shift Option 2? The same thing?
The At symbol.

What is produced when you type Shift 2 then?
TM instead of Euro
