Apple Music keeps stopping

Others have reported it. Quite a few actually. I use Apple Music. I am on an up to date iPhone 13 Pro. I am playing "Downloaded Music, songs, shuffle." We have family sharing. I stream the music to various devices depending on where I am. At home I have a few Bose Soundtouch devices but also some HomePods. I do not normally stream to more than one device at a time (exception being 2 HomePods in kitchen set up as a stereo pair). I do not have most music downloaded as lossless.

Anyway I've had several variations of this. Previously a song would start playing but within the first 15-45 seconds it just stops playing. The device shows that the music is NOT paused. Trying to pause/unpause had no effect. Going back to the start of the track it would start to play again but would stop at the exact same spot. I've not had this happen for some time now though.

More recently a song plays, finishes but then stops. The device shows that music is NOT paused but shows the title of the track that just completed with the progress bar at the start of the track but no sound and track is not progressing. Pause/unpause has no effect. Skip to next track button will jump to the next track and then it will be OK for a while but eventually it happens again. Sometimes frequently, sometimes not.

Sometimes I suspect the connection to the Apple Watch might be the culprit but I have no way of confirming that. But I have a lot of strange reactions from the "Now Playing" app on my Apple Watches (one series 6 and one 7, not used simultaneously of course). I'll raise my wrist and it will show the cover art for an album that is not playing but appears to be downloaded to the watch though I don't believe I have any music downloaded to the watch at all. Certainly not the album that always seems to appear. It takes several taps to get the Now Playing app back to the playlist on my phone.

I have also noticed that when I am streaming from my phone directly to a BT speaker if my watch gets out of range it interferes with playback which I find very odd.

Apple, years ago your ads were themed "It just works." Can we get back to making it "just work?"

Hi, just making a suggestion here based on my experience that I've just had. My iPhone stopped playing music every time it locked the screen. Went down all the suggested paths including deleting and reinstalling the music app (Which was a nightmare as it also deletes all downloaded music!)

Anyway the reason simply came down to the fact that I have 'Focus' turned on to 'Do Not Disturb'! Every time the screen locks it only allows the specified apps and people to work and music isn't in this.

Definitely a bug as there's no way to add the music app to the list of apps that are exempt from focus, but that did sort my problem out by switching focus off.

Not sure if this is something that might help you with your issue?

Howdy MJL-Canuck,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

As you see this occurs with different instances, have you noticed if this happens on your iPhone only or if this happens with anyone else in the Family Sharing group? If this is happening with your iPhone only, let's check to see if you may have a profile or VPN installed at the time this happens. If so, can you remove or disable it to see if this continues to occur? To check for a configuration profile on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management. You can locate additional information here: Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple Support

If that isn't related to what is occurring, check to see if you may have been listening to a playlist or album to see if the music pauses as it's reached the final song. For help with this, you can check out what's set to play next if it occurs again to see if this could be related. Check out the information below for help and you can find more information here: Add music to your queue to play next on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device - Apple Support

See and change what plays next

1. Tap the song that's playing at the bottom of your screen.

2. In the lower-right corner of your screen, tap Playing Next the Playing Next icon.

3. From here, you can see and edit your Playing Next and Autoplay queues.

• Reorder music: Drag the three lines the Reorder icon next to a song up or down.

• Remove a song: Swipe left over a song, then tap Remove.

If you play music that's not in your queue, you'll see an option to clear your music queue. If you choose Clear, then the music in your queue is replaced with the music you've selected to play.

If none of that information is helpful, Contact Apple Support so they can look into this in detail with you.

Have a great day!
