TM old file backups

Today TM wrote that the disk is full. According to TM on my MACbook air TM will delete old files when needed.

Yesterday there was backups back to January. Today there is only backup 2 days back.

Anyone knows what is going on?

Time Machine will purge older backups to make room for more recent data. If the TM drive is the same size(or nearly so) as the internal drive, you'll run out of history space sooner than with a large external drive.

One reason for suggesting a backup TM drive be 2-3x your internal drive's capacity is to allow more history to be retained longer.

Personally, I don't ascribe to that as I maintain history differently. But, it's still a best practices recommendation.
