Major problems using Apple Watch Series 7 for golf
I recently bought a Series 7 Apple Watch specifically to use for golf, including GPS features. I know there are other devices specifically for golf but I wanted the other things that the Apple Watch has to offer.
However...
I have had nothing but problems with it and they have nothing to do with the app that I ended up selecting (GolfLogix, although that was also an adventure in and of itself). The watch refuses to stay on the app no matter what I do. I am guessing that I am hitting the crown or pressing the button when I cup or bow my wrist or that my glove is hitting it or something. I have the settings on "Return to clock face" set to 1 hour, but every time I look at the watch the clock face is back on. There is no setting for always leaving an app open until you close it that I can find, although I have seen this as a setting that apparently older models had. During a round I would like to disable the crown and button completely and just scroll the screen to see the info, but it does not appear that there is any way to do that.
The other thing that is amazing to me is that I can somehow press the button below the crown accidentally, which makes the watch make a little alarm sound for Power Off, Medical ID, or Emergency Call. The watch makes this sound regardless of whether the sound is turned off or not, so a couple of times it has done that all of a sudden while other people are swinging, which is annoying to say the least.
I have also had a lot of trouble getting the watch to pick up the correct GPS distances. It seemed to be working on my home course today (first time I've used it there), but I got so frustrated with having to reopen the app every time that I took the **** thing off and put it in my bag.
To say I'm not pleased with my purchase is an understatement. I am now thinking that I should have just gone with a golf-specific Garmin GPS watch that would have done what I want it to do. It of course wouldn't have all the other things that the Apple Watch has on it, but at least it would do what I primarily paid for and do it well without having to constantly mess with my settings and everything while I'm playing.
If there is a fix for these issues that I am not aware of, I would be glad to hear them. Otherwise I will probably try to get rid of this thing as quickly as possible.
