Lost pdfs on my Apple Books app

My Apple Books app kept crashing so I deleted the app on my iPad and downloaded it again from Apple Store BUT most of my pdfs have been lost from my library. Haw can I retrieve them?

If you synced with iCloud, your pdf files will download again. If you were not syncing, you may have deleted all of your data when you deleted books
