Where is the startup folder?

Every time my wife's MacBook Pro restarts, Spotify starts running. Then she has to do a command-Q to make it stop.

Isn't there a specific folder which controls all of the processes that initiate on restart? I can't remember where that is or how to update it. This is different from "Startup Disk".

Thanks!

When you shut down the computer, there is a popup that says something like "open apps automatically on start up" - UNcheck that. And, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > unlock and remove all items in "login items".
