Problem playing an HDR recorded video on iPad - too bright

I am having a problem playing a texted video on my iPad. Everything is up to date and this has only been happening recently. The video looks fine in the preview but as soon as I choose play, it is way too bright, looking over-exposed. The same video plays fine on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I have found a work-around. If I email the video to myself through my gmail account, the emailed version plays just fine. Anyway, there was a similar question asked by KnittingNancy but I couldn’t find a way to respond to her question about the work-around.

is this a problem with my older iPad, a software issue, or something that the next iOS could fix?

Hey there Lady_Oz,

If you haven't already, make sure you check for software and app updates. To check on your iPad, go to Settings > General > Software update.

You can then check for app updates using these steps:

Open the App Store.
Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

If this persists, be sure to check your display settings:

Take care!
