Monterey upgrade

An error message reads 'the requested version of macOS is not available' (I have a mac air from 2013 and the current version of Big Sur) What does this mean?

For MacBook Air's you need:

MacBook Air introduced in 2015 or later.

Thus, your MacBook Air cannot go beyond Big Sur.
