I bought an iphone 13 and set up payments using the Apple Pay. My reminder to pay and all communication comes through my old phone though, which I am going to throw out. How will I even know when I need to pay. And I thought it was on auto pay, but obviously it isn't.

If you transferred your data over from your old device your notifications should have carried over too. If not, you'll want to set them up again using these steps: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

I talked to Apple support and they had me link the Apple Pay to a different email address. So I had to change my Apple ID, but just for Apple Pay.
