Can't edit the Y axis scale in Numbers

Hi, I need to adjust the Y axis scale so that more lines are visible to give my bar chart more detail. At the moment it has just 4 lines of random values. There doesn't seem to be an option to edit this in the 'Axis Labels' menu, I want to set it to 1000 intervals ranging from 20,000 up to 50,000.

You have top select the diagram and not the values on the left side, then you can change the scale (min, max & steps).
