if you have added many complicated adjustments, I would duplicate the photo before trying to draw on it. This way you can discard the drawings and start over without losing the previous adjustments.
The Markup extension is fine, butI found it takes several tries to find the most pleasing layout of text and graphics and the best colours to go with the photo. To duplicate a photo select it and use ⌘D . This will not create a duplicate original but just a second version, that will share the original file, so you will not need much extra storage.
