Ping my kids iPad from my iphone

I used to be able to ping my kids iPads when they lost them in the house and play a sound so they could find them. I have all the “find my” options enabled and I can find them at the address they are at, but can no longer seem to be able to play a sound so they can find their iPads when lost.

Any advice??

I had already tried quitting and restarting the apps. Shutting down the iPads and iPhone and restarting them. Neither worked. I just tried turning the Find My option OFF on all devices and restarting them and then turning the apps back on and that seemed to do the trick. I am able to ping and play sound on both iPads from my phone again (and from either iPad to the other as well as iPad to phone).

So there’s the answer - turn the app off, reset, and back on again.

kimerly80,

Thanks for keeping us updated. Let's keep going.

Have you closed the Find My app on all devices and restarted them? These steps can help reset that connection between the devices and may be helpful! Quit and reopen an app on iPad - Apple Support

Quit and reopen an app on iPad

If an app isn’t responding, you can quit it and then reopen it to try and resolve the issue. (Typically, there’s no reason to quit an app; quitting it doesn’t save battery power, for example.)

1. To quit an app, open the App Switcher, then swipe up on the app.
2. To reopen the app, go to the Home Screen (or the App Library), then tap the app.

Once closed, please restart all devices. Then, check to see that all devices are updated. Depending on the models you have, there may or may not be an update available: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Let us know how that goes.

Cheers!

Hello kimerly80,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Just to clarify, are you saying that you don't see the option to play a sound anymore, or you see the option but it's not working?

Also, do you have these devices as a part of a Family Sharing group? Do you recall anything changing on your devices around the time this issue started happening?

To get started, please check out these helpful links:

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
