Will your iPhone let you know what line you're getting calls or messages from?

I want to set up my iPhone with dual SIMs, but I want to know if I would be alerted which line I am receiving calls or text messages from when they are not saved in my caller ID. I would also like to know if there are any features that have been added where I can use a certain ring tone for each line so I can audibly tell which line is ringing.

Re: “… Would you happen to have a screenshot that shows how that single letter looks on-screen? …”

It’s depicted in the incoming call notification popup pasted below.

In this example (from the Apple’s support site) the incoming call is on the user’s “P” line.

Presumably, this simulated user named his/her lines “Primary” and “Secondary.”

The letter displayed is simply the 1st letter of the line’s “name” as-assigned by the phone’s user; they can be anything. (e.g, Home, Work, Verizon, T-Mo, Primary, Alternate, etc.)

[Note that the simulated example below does NOT correctly depict the phone’s dual-SIM signal strength meters.]
