imessenger emoji errors on iphone12

when i send or receive sms

text on messenger with emoji's a lot of them come up as question marks. what is going on?

Sounds like you are receiving these Emojis from a phone that is running iOS 15.4 whereas your phone is not, hence the question marks. The latest Emojis were released with iOS 15.4 so please check your iOS version and update.
