Calendar can’t read this imported calendar file

Hi,

I'm receiving this message when trying to open event files with the CalendarFileHandler. I used the calendar app for Mac for years and it only started happening recently. This is mostly happening when I receive an event registration confirmation email that contains the .ics file. Also happening when clicking on 'add to calendar' on a web page, then downloading the file, then opening. Otherwise the calendar works great.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with the files. Some of them are form reputable site or apps like Meetup, Outlook, etc'...

Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?

I'm using MacOS Big Sur v11.6.6

Thank you in advance!

I have the exact same problem after reinstalling macOS 11.6.6 Big Sur. If I right-click on the .ics file and choose Open With and then choose Calendar (instead of CalendarFileHandler), it imports the event without issue. However it is a pain in the *** to have to do this every.single.time. I want to import an event. I've never had this issue before, so it seems likely that it is a flaw in the 11.6.6 update.

Hi, shtark1,

Make sure you are following the steps outlined in Import or export calendars on Mac - Apple Support to import your calendars.

If so and the issue continues, try importing them while booted in safe mode, then a new user account. These steps will allow us to isolate the issue from something occurring specifically in your user account, to something occurring across the system.

You can get information on booting into safe mode, what it does and why we use it to troubleshoot, and how to proceed with your findings here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

For information on creating a new user account, check the steps here: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

I am receiving the same error message when clicking on ADD TO CALENDAR on a webpage. I can confirm this functionality definitely quit working after updating to Big Sur 11.6.6 - the update to 11.6.6 appears to me to be the problem. I do not have a problem if I perform the same functionality on my iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.5.

Thank you for your response Lindsay. Unfortunately non of the above helped. Some files are importing fine in both normal mode and safe mode while others don't in both modes. I called technical support, reinstalled Big Sur, spoke to 2 agents, and the 2nd one gave up. She gave me an advice to drag & drop the .ics file into the calendar app, but that only works for some .ics files and a bit less convenient.
