Hey there Boca333,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We completely understand why you would want to update the firmware on your AirPods. We are happy to help.

Your AirPods should be updated automatically. If you regularly connect the AirPods to an Apple device, like an iPhone, the latest AirPods firmware automatically updates in the background.

If they are not updated try this-

To see which firmware you are on, follow this:

On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods Max. Tap "i", then scroll down to the About section to see the firmware version.
On Mac: From the top left of the menu bar, option-click the Apple logo, then choose System Information. Under Bluetooth, the customer's AirPods Max firmware is listed.
If the AirPods Max firmware listed isn't the latest version, follow these steps to update it:
Make sure that the AirPods Max are within Bluetooth range of the customer's companion iOS, iPadOS, or macOS device.
Plug the AirPods in and Listen to music or other audio content for at least 30 seconds.
Update the firmware using one of the following methods:
AirPods Max in the Smart Case: Wait 30 minutes and then check to see if the firmware is up to date:
On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods Max.
AirPods Max not in the Smart Case: Let them sit motionless for 30 minutes, then check the firmware version:
Go to Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods Max.

Cheers!
