ipad not sleeping

2020 iPad Air, recently I noticed that battery was draining faster than before. The display stayed on, despite the settings are at 2 minutes to off. I did a restore and that seemed to work, the display would dim then go off. But 48 hours later, it's back to old ways.

OK, I might have done something to dim and shut off the screen.

I have my iPad next to my Air and one thing I noticed was the Handoff was activated. Nice feature, but I thought maybe this was keeping it from sleeping. Turned off Handoff.

Then I went into all the notification settings and turned off almost all except a few essentials.

Now it dims after 30 secs and goes black after 60secs.

Have you performed a forced-restart of your iPad - as so doing will often clear an isolated software issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
