I've just bought one of these and found that of the two pairs of headphones I have the one works fine and the other just produces the clicking.

The difference between them seems to be that the first has 3 sections on the audio plug, while the one with a microphone and a 4 section plug doesn't work. And when I use a different cable with a 3 section plug (therefore no microphone) that set of headphone works fine.

I've just seen a different question where an answer advised connecting the adapter to the iPad first then slowly insert the plug. This works but the microphone is very quiet.

Greetings, miyalung.

If your headphones aren't working as expected, there are some steps you can take.

"Check for debris, damage, or loose connections

  1. Check for debris in the headphone port on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
  2. Check your headphone cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage, like wear or breakage.
  3. Look for debris on the meshes in each earbud. To remove debris, gently brush all openings with a small, soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.
  4. Firmly plug your headphones back in. If your iOS device has a case, remove the case to get a firm connection. " If your headphones don't work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue continues, test Apple EarPods if possible. You can also reach out to the headphone manufacturer.

We hope this helps!

Sincerely.

As described, the cable that you are using to connect your headphones to your iPad, or the headphones themselves, may not be wired correctly for iPad. There are different wiring standards for TRS and TRRS connections.

In general, there are three main wiring standards for 3.5mm TRRS (tip, ring, ring, sleeve) connections - and they are not interchangeable:

CTIA (Apple)

OMTP (Nokia)

Camcorder AV
